The Interview with GOD

Prayer Time

Here are some prayers and sentences to help you reflect on God,

yourself and other people.

Be still and know that I am God.

(Psalm 46 v. 10)

From the depths of my despair I call to you, Lord.
Hear my cry O Lord,
listen to my call for help!

(from Psalm 130)

Father,
I am seeking:
I am hesitant and uncertain,
but will you, 0 God,
watch over each step of mine and guide me.

(St. Augustine)

Forgiveness

Father,
we have sinned against Heaven and against you.
We are not worthy to be called your children.
We turn to you again,
Have mercy on us,
bring us back to yourself
as those who once were dead
but now have life through Christ our Lord,
Amen.

(from Common Worship)

O Lord, forgive what I have been,
sanctify what I am,
and order what I shall be.

(Source unknown)

God grant me the serenity to accept

the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things that I can

and the wisdom to know the difference.

(Reinold Niebuhr)

Lord Jesus,
being full of foolishness,
we often sin and have to ask pardon,
help us to forgive as we would be forgiven;
neither mentioning old offences committed against us,
nor dwelling upon them in thought,
nor being influenced by them in heart;
but loving our brother and sister freely,
as you freely loved us.
For your name's sake.

(Christina Rossetti)

Illness

Father, I pray for those who are sick in body, mind or spirit.
Especially I pray for .................
Please bring them your peace in their pain,

your strength in their weakness

and your comfort in their sadness.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Bereavement

Lord Jesus Christ, in the darkness of my loss I come to you;

I cannot believe it has happened and yet I know it is true;
sorrow and anxiety fill my life and it's hard to find rest.
So I come to you, Lord Jesus,
I bring you the burden in my heart - it is too heavy for me;
please take the weight and bear it with me, Lord,
and give me your peace. Amen.

Peace

Almighty God,
from whom all thoughts of truth and
peace proceed:
Kindle, we pray you,
in the hearts of all people the true love of peace,
and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom
those who take counsel for the nations of the earth;
that in tranquillity your kingdom may go forward,
till the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love:
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me show love.
Where there is injury, pardon,
Where there is doubt, faith, '
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light,
Where there is sadness, joy.

(attributed to St. Francis)

The Way Forward

Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you
for all the benefits you have won for us,
for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us.
Most merciful Redeemer,
friend and brother,
may we know you more clearly,
love you more dearly,
and follow you more nearly,
day by day.

(Richard of Chichester)

The Lords Prayer

Our Father,
Who art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil, f
or thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory
For ever and ever.

Amen.

As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved,

clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness,

humility, meekness and patience.

Bear with one another and,

if anyone has a complaint against another,

forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you,

so you must also forgive.

Above all, clothe yourselves with love,

which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,

to which indeed you were called in the one body.

And be thankful.

(St. Paul's Letter to the Colossians)
